The Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity was active on campus between 1954 and 1982. It was established nationally in 1925 on the principles of the Boy Scout Oath: Be a Leader, Be a Friend, Be of Service.

Arlene taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade students in North Dakota, Madison and Stevens Point for more than 30 years. From her first days in a classroom, she knew she would love teaching. In retrospect, she cannot imagine spending one's life career lacking the daily stimulation from watching elementary students grow intellectually and socially. Her teaching career began in a small North Dakota minting town where her first class of 6th graders consisted of nine girls and twenty boys, two of whom were on probation from a juvenile correctional facility. It was a challenging year, but as it turns out, and invaluable experience. She credits much of whatever success she enjoyed over the rest of her career to what she learned in that first classroom. She learned the importance of developing an environment where all students believe not only their teacher respects and values their contributions, but so do their peers. In her view, there are few, if any, more important classroom management goals.

Gifts from Thomas F. Davis' estate created the Carol Krohn College Scholarship. Krohn was Davis' fiancee and a 1971 graduate of UWSP. She was teaching English and drama at her alma mater, Royall High School, when she was killed by a drunk driver in 1972 at the age of 23. Davis passed away April 18th, 2022, on the 50th anniversary of Krohn's tragic passing.

Chancellor Bernie L. Patterson Scholarship

Bernie Patterson was the 14th Chancellor of UWSP, serving from 2010-2021. Patterson has long championed the value of higher education as both an individual benefit to students and as a public good to society. He was instrumental in bringing funds to campus for student scholarships, program funds, professorships and assistantships. He built and nurtured partnerships with local businesses and community organizations, many of which provide internships and careers for UWSP students. Patterson also started the tradition of touching the cupola at the end of both Convocation and Commencement ceremonies. He was particular invested in the success of students and worked diligently to create a culture on campus where all students felt welcome and included.

This scholarship honors Connie J. Antonuk (BS-1986) and Mark C. Martin (BS-1985) of Rhinelander, who both earned degrees in water resources from UWSP.  Connie has enjoyed a career working for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Mark had a successful career as a financial advisor.  Both enjoy the outdoors, especially the Wisconsin northwoods.

Conservation Heroes Scholarship

This scholarship is for students in the College of Natural Resources.

The Conservation Heroes Scholarship provides scholarships for worthy students in the CNR while permanently honoring individual conservation heroes from all walks of life.

Dane County Conservation League Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students who are Wisconsin residents and junior or senior status in the College of Natural Resources.

This scholarship was established in 2018 by a generous gift from the Dane County Conservation League, the second oldest conservation group in Wisconsin, established in 1933 by citizens interested in maintaining and enhancing habitat for wildlife and fisheries in the area. In its early years, the League leased the first public hunting ground in Wisconsin (Deansville Marsh) and purchased 4,300 acres in central Wisconsin for the development of prairie chicken habitat, which, among many other conservation projects, it manages to this day.

Danielle Gorectke was an outgoing 23-year-old woman from Minocqua, WI. She was an undergraduate student at UWSP completing her degree in communicative disorders. Danielle loved children and especially loved working and helping those with learning disabilities. Danielle’s dream was to complete her speech-language pathology degree at UWSP and become a speech-language pathologist, but her life was tragically cut short. It is the hope of the Gorectke family that this scholarship will help another student reach his/her dream of becoming a speech-language pathologist.

Among the many gifts bestowed by the Vallier family to UWSP, this scholarship endowment honors Jacque Vallier, a renowned high school biology and natural history teacher in Milwaukee who gave thousands of students an appreciation for nature and love of sciences. Created by Jacque’s wife, Dorothy, following his passing in 1996, the scholarship recognizes students for their organization involvement, academic achievement and potential for future success in their chosen field of natural resource conservation. The recipients will be attending the six-week field techniques in natural resources course at Treehaven.

International wellness expert and Ohio native John Munson came to UWSP in 1975 and was a leading force on wellness issues for the campus. He served as head of the School of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics and head of the School of Health Promotion and Health Development. Dr. Munson and his wife Barb started this scholarship to help fund the education of students majoring in health science and wellness.

John & Catherine Scholarship

Catherine (Hill) Lader earned two degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in FCS Education. The education she received at UWSP served her well as a classroom teacher, FCCLA adviser, state supervisor of FCS at the WI Department of Public Instruction, and a member of the National FCCLA Consultant Team. Catherine was heavily influenced by two role models at UWSP-Dr. Fern Horn and Dr. Agnes Jones. Both women were pioneers in the field of FCS and were dedicated to preparing their students thoroughly for a career in FCS. John and Catherine Lader continue to support FCS along with FCCLA and believe every secondary school in the state needs to have an FCS Program. John Wenger is an Alaska Wildlife Biologist and Naturalist. He graduated from UWSP in 1965 with a B.S. in Conservation and Biology. After serving in the Navy Special Forces during the Vietnam War, he drove to Alaska with a desire to have a career in wildlife conservation. After 13 years of field studies with several state and federal conservation agencies, he returned to UWSP to complete an M.S. degree in nature interpretation. From 1982 to 2000, he taught natural history classes at the University of Alaska at Anchorage. Later, he founded Alaska Natural History Expeditions, guiding teachers and other professionals into remote Alaska wilderness to study and enjoy its natural history wonders. He had a most rewarding career. Now retired, he just sniffs wildflowers and gawks at birds all day.

This scholarship honors the late Michael and Jessina Dineen, who grew up in Wisconsin's Chippewa Valley. They are remembered for their love and appreciation of the outdoors, their strong conservation ethic, and their enjoyment of sharing it with others. Both were DNR Hunter Education Instructors and served in leadership roles in the Chippewa Rod and Gun Club and the Chippewa Valley Outdoor Resource Alliance. This scholarship, made possible by Jessina's wishes in her estate following her death in 2015, supports undergraduate natural resource majors from the Chippewa Valley region who will be entering their senior year at UW-Stevens Point.

Patti Baird Wimme was a Registered Dietician who received her bachelor's degree from UWSP and master's degree from Case Western Reserve University. During her professional career, which included nearly three years as a nutritionist at the Menominee Tribal Clinic and one and a half years at Great Lakes Intertribal Council, she worked with several young women of considerable talent. These young women lacked the formal education to be admitted into a professional health care field. She felt that all they needed was the opportunity. She started this scholarship to help other talented Native Americans like those young women to become leaders in tribal healthcare.

The Regnier Family Scholarship was established to hep support and encourage students to participate in international education programs. The family learned through the years that one must cultivate informed understanding rather than relying on narrow uniformed views in reacting to the rest of the world. By becoming aware of how much we have in common with people of other countries and by learning about others all over the world we tend to promote global understanding, world peace and shared values. The family participated in over 30 years in the UWSP Host Family Program for International Students and two of their children participated in international education while attending UWSP. For 33 years Sue Wilcox worked for the United Way of Portage County, a non-profit organization committed to serving the most vulnerable individuals and families in Portage County. Sue started her work with the United Way as a volunteer serving on the Fund Distribution Committee in 1987 while still a student at UWSP. She became the Director of Planning and Allocations in 1989 and later the Executive Director in 1998. Her work was always to encourage the contributions of time, talent, and treasure on behalf of those most in need. Because of the generous spirit and kindness of Portage County residents, Sue has been grateful to call this wonderful community home. Recipients of this scholarship are family and consumer sciences majors recognized for their commitment to their community and campus involvement.

Skyward Employee Pathways Scholarship

To provide scholarships to students in computer related majors or business related majors, and preferably, a Skyward intern. Funds for the scholarship are donated by Skyward employees.

Skyward Scholars Scholarship

Scholarships available to incoming first year students pursuing a career in computer programming or similar field. This scholarship is housed in the Computing & New Media Technologies department.

Eligibility Requirements
- full time, good academic standing (2.0 min GPA)
- financial need may be considered
- preference to military veterans
- selected recipients must participate annually in Skyward sponsored events and site visits to remain eligible for subsequent scholarship funding.

Renewable up to four years based on continuing to meet eligibility requirements and available funding.

In 1980, UWSP alums Jim and Jean King started Skyward and began focusing on delivering technology solutions to public sector organizations. Sol Sepsenwol Freshman in Biology Scholarship

Scholarships available to first year students majoring in biology or biochemistry.

Eligibility Requirements
- biology or biochemistry major
- 3.4 HS GPA min
- ACT/SAT score at or above 90th percentile
- preference to students interested in research

Sol Sepsenwol has been a faculty member at UWSP since 1978. After receiving both his bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in Physiology at the University of Chicago, he worked at the Illinois Institute of Technology and Northwestern University Medical School. He was originally hired at UWSP as a human physiology professor, but now also teaches upper-level biology classes that he has developed ranging from electron microscopy to human reproduction. His research on the sperm cell of an intestinal parasite has earned him four research grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health to support his work. Off campus, Sol rock climbs and has guided trips to Devil’s Lake with UWSP pre-med and other students from around campus.

To provide a scholarship to encourage the study and practice of research-based horticulture, to instill a joy of gardening, and to share that knowledge through community service.

To provide a scholarship for an outstanding Spanish major.

Spud Bowl Scholarship

For 37 years, UWSP, in conjunction with over 50 local businesses, has celebrated the central Wisconsin agriculture industry by raising awareness about the importance of agriculture locally and funding scholarships for students from the area. Spud Bowl Scholarship recipients are recognized at the annual fall Spud Bowl football game.

Hilary “Larry” LaBelle (#8) was one of the original founders of Epsilon-Nu chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity in 1956 at Central State Teacher’s College, now known as UWSP. His successful business career as founder and owner of Diacar Products Inc. allowed him to support many charitable organizations and to establish a scholarship to assist students who demonstrate character, leadership and community service.
